Elton Downs, Mugwee, Elvira, Saranac make up the Northern Aggregation properties, which now exceeds 100,000 acres of the Mitchell/Flinders Downs country.
The geographical location of the Northern Aggregation properties ideally situates them to be the operation hubs for breeding & backgrounding. Cattle are usually sourced from the Gulf and surrounding areas, and once weaned, backgrounders make their way south to feedlots on the Darling Downs.
This property relies on the monsoonal and cyclonic activity, often dubbed “the wet season”. With high climate variability, first-rate grazing land management procedures are vital. Ensuring the correct ratios of stock to pasture levels helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the land.
Extensive management programs are in place to manage the invasive prickly acacia, a weed of national significance. Knudsen Cattle is proud to partner with Desert Channels QLD and Southern Gulf NRM on several weed management programs.
Three committed staff members manage Elton Downs, and the property boasts excellent staff amenities. Its proximity to Hughenden means that staff have opportunities to participate in local sporting competitions such as netball and touch football.
A highlight for everyone is getting involved in the Stamford Races held in Hughenden each July. The day includes horse racing, a Stockman’s Challenge, fashions on the field and live entertainment.

Knudsen Cattle is a breeding and trading operation based in Queensland.
The breeding herd has a strong Santa Gertrudis base infused with Shorthorn. Genetics are selected through the use of tools such as the breed plan, morphology and structural soundness evaluations.
Knudsen Cattle strives for innovation to stay ahead of the curve.
